The Abu-Dhabi, United Arab Emirates-based global airline sealed an order for seven (7) Airbus A350 Freighters, Airbus S.A announced on August 3rd. The firm odrer follows on the Letter of Intent that had been signed by both parties this past february during the Singapore airshow. The airline which already operates five Airbus A350-1000 in passenger version is poised to bring a highly fuel efficient aircraft to its maturing and highly successful cargo operation.

The A350F benefits from a 109 tonne payload capability which is superior to the 102-tonnes of the Boeing 777LRF, five of which currently form the backbone of Etihad’s cargo fleet. Powered by two fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the A350F claims at least 20% lower fuel consumption and emissions compared to the Boeing 777LRF. Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics arm of the Etihad Aviation Group, has shown exceptional ability to deliver quality services and value, earning the airline the prestigious Cargo Airline of the Year and Air Cargo Pharma Service of the Year awards in March 2022 after having transported a record yearly tonnage of 729,000 tonnes.

Expressing its commitment to securing the best guarantees for the A350 fleet operations, Etihad has retained Airbus’ Flight Hours Services for providing long term technical support and maintenance. That fleet support contract is the first for A350 operators in the Middle East. Going further, Etihad has also signed on to Airbus Skywise Health Monitoring solution. Skywise correlates real-time data that are transmitted continuously from the aircraft during operation with actionable intervention scenario. This predictive maintenance solution has also critically helped Airbus provide valuable analytics-based insight into operators decision making processes.
