Qatar Airways announced it was resuming daily flights to Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates capital starting July 1st. The re-instatement of flight QR1036 departing Doha at 14:35 and flight QR1037 returning from Sharjah at 17:55 using the airline Boeing 787 flagship is part of the carrier effort to return its operations to pre-Covid19 level. The Boeing 787s that will be deployed on the route are fitted with 22 First Class seats along with 232 Economy Class seats. While Qatar Airways currently offers global travel service to 130 destinations, a receding Covid19 pandemic may allow it to reach its target number of 140 destinations served by summer’s end.

With the Sharjah route, Qatar Airways is offering global travelers a credible alternative to Dubai-based rival Emirates. For instance on the highly coveted US market, Qatar Airways is now poised to operate 85 weekly flights to the US distributed across 12 destinations. In comparison, Emirates now also serves 12 but with a lower flight frequencies of 70 flights each week.

With generally better access to vaccine coinciding with the summer travel season, the industry appears trending towards better outlook than expected.
