São Tomé and Príncipe international airport to undergo runway improvements

São Tomé and Príncipe’s International Airport

The economic and trade advisor at São Tomé and Príncipe’s China Embassy announced Wednesday April 17th 2019 that China would finance a project to upgrade the local international airport.

According to the web site macauhub.com.mo, the works due to begin before the end of the year will comprise extending the runway from 2,170 metres to 2,800 metres, enlarging the aircraft parking apron surface,  revamping the airport lighting systems, the modernization of air traffic systems as well as making improvements to the cargo handling facilities.

The online publication stated that the project presentation ceremony was attended by São Tomé and Príncipe’s Prime Minister Jorge Bom Jesus and members of the Chinese government mission in São Tome and Príncipe.
