Ft. Worth, Texas (July 7, 2006) – The inauguration of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) was held at Lockheed Martin Corporation, in Ft. Worth, Texas. “Lighting II” is expected to be the largest military aircraft procurement in modern times, the stealthy, supersonic F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) is a 5th Generation, supersonic, multi-role stealth fighter designed to replace aging AV-8B Harriers, A-10’s, F-16s, F/A-18 Hornets and United Kingdom (UK) Harrier GR.7s and Sear Harriers. The three variants of the aircraft are conventional takeoff and Landing (CTOL) for the U.S. Air Force, short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) variant, for the U.S. Marine Corps and the UK and carrier variant (CV) aircraft, for the U.S. Navy.
