Horrific images of yesterday’s TransAsia Airways flight GE235 crash have began to appear. The aircraft, an ATR-72-600 had departed Taipei Songshan Airport on February 4th 2015 at about 10:50 am on a flight to Kinmen crashed less than 5 minutes later. Footage of the incident was captured by a dashboard-mounted camera aboard a car, showing the low-flying aircraft, apparently struggling to remain in the air, executing a sharp banking turn narrowly avoiding a bridge and diving into the Keeling river. Of the TransAvia Airways Flight GE235 which carried 53 passengers and 5 crew members on board, at least 13 fatalities had been confirmed dead.
The aircraft registered as B22816 was delivered brand new to the airline on April 15th 2014. It is reported to be the fourth of the carrier’s ATR-72 to have been involved in a crash, following closely last year’s Flight 222 ATR-72-500 crash that killed 48 peoples. The crash is being investigated by Taiwan Civil Aeronautics Administration.
