Beginning April 21st 2011, Air China Cargo flights from Chengdu to Shanghai have opened the new dedicated Boeing 747-400 freighter link to western Europe from Southwest China. the new twice-weekly connection consists of the Milan-Chengdu and Chengdu shanghai legs. the first leg between Milan Malpensa and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the first direct cargo service from the heart of western to the growing southwest China center of high technology investment, services and manufacturing. The second leg from Chengdu to Shanghai Pudong International airport will provide gateway routing to the world for goods produced in Chengdu. In fact Shanghai Pudong Air China Cargo hub is the heart of a global freight operation relying on a fleet of 9 Boeing 747-400 dedicated freighter serving destinations like Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, Vienna, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka. In addition China Air Cargo has also relied on freight capacity aboard 280 China Air passenger aircraft to provide additional 128 destinations in 29 countries to its freight destination network. Our April 20th 2011 entry already mentioned how Air China Cargo was gradually increasing direct air freight access from Europe to a growing list of strategically important commercial hubs-centers-cities. On that occasion, a three times weekly flight from Frankfurt to Dalian via Shanghai Pudong had already began operating on April 15th 2011.
